Frank “Dick” Krahenbuhl Jr. 82 of Rochelle, IL died Friday Nov. 23, 2012 in Madison, Wisconsin at the William S. Middleton Memorial V. A. Hospice Center. Dick was born June 28, 1930 in Rochelle, IL to Frank E. and Stella M.( Leslie) Krahenbuhl. He was a lifelong resident of Rochelle.

Dick graduated from Rochelle Township High School in 1949 where he participated in basketball, track and football. He was awarded the football Hackett Trophy. After graduation he worked at the family business, Krahenbuhl Garage, as a mechanic. Dick was involved with the local softball and hardball teams. In 1951 he received an invitation from the Boston Red Sox to attend Spring Training. His plans were changed the next day when he received his military draft notice. He served his country in Korea as an airplane mechanic. After his honorable discharge in 1953 he returned to the family business on 3rd Street in Rochelle. He and his brother took over the family business in 1965 when his father retired. In 1967 a new dealership facility was built on the corner of 7th St. and Flagg Rd. and in 1971 the Chrysler Plymouth Jeep Eagle franchise was purchased. He married Peggy (Parsons) Schaneberg in 1973 in Arizona.

After his retirement in 1996, Dick and Peggy enjoyed winters in Arizona and trips in the motorhome. He was a 50 year member of Horizon Lodge, Tebala Temple and the Freeport Consistory. A life member of FMCA, Family Motor Coach Association. Survived by his daughter: Vicki (Joe Benjamin) Finkboner, brother: LaVerne “Bub” (Donna) Krahenbuhl, sister: Bernice (Hans) Heuer, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, a sister Doris Karr and in 2009 his wife, Peggy.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at the Unger Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th St., Rochelle, IL with Rev. Cindy Marino officiating. Visitation will be from 3 - 7 pm on Monday with a Masonic Service at 7pm. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Wounded Warrior Project. Burial at Lawnridge Cemetery with military services provided by the Eastern-Lee Ogle Honor Guard.
