LaVerne “Bub” Krahenbuhl 85, of Rochelle died Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at his home in Rochelle, IL after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Rochelle on October 23, 1927 to Frank E. and Stella (Leslie) Krahenbuhl. He was a lifelong resident of Rochelle.
Bub graduated from Rochelle Township High School in 1946. He started driving a high school bus route while in high school and continued driving the route and bus trips for 29 years. He attended every Rochelle Hub home and away football and basketball game for many years. He was a Rochelle season ticket holder for over 65 years. Bub was an avid Hub, Cubs and Bear fan. He coached a Rotary Little League team for years and helped with the construction of the current field. After graduation, he joined his father in business at Krahenbuhl’s Garage on 3rd St. in Rochelle. In 1965, his father retired and Bub and his brother Dick took over the family business. In 1967, they built the new facility and acquired the Chrysler Plymouth Jeep franchise in 1971. He officially retired in 1996 but never actually retired from his love of cars until December 12, 2012.
Bub loved spending time in Wisconsin with his family at the lake house and traveling to Marco Island with special friends for many years.
He married Donna Moluf at the Rochelle United Methodist Church February 5, 1949. They celebrated 63 years of marriage.
He was a member of the Horicon Lodge, Shrine Tebala Temple and the Freeport Consistory.
He is survived by his wife, Donna, daughter, Lynn (Ed) VanVickle, son, Roger (Mary) Krahenbuhl, grandson, Brian (Marla) VanVickle, granddaughter, Amy (Casey) Kilduff and great-grandchildren, Zechariah, Ali, Braylon and Brooklyn, one sister, Berniece (Hans) Heuer, and a niece, Vicki (Joe Benjamin) Finkboner. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Keneth, a brother, Dick and a sister, Doris Karr.
Visitation will be Friday, December 14 from 4 to 7 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, Rochelle, IL with a Masonic Service at 7:00. Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Rochelle United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Lawnridge Cemetery. Memorial to be established.
