Alfhild S. Stangeland, 83, of Lee, passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at her home. She was born August 10, 1938, in Norway, the daughter of Malvin and Gudrun (Iversdotter) Njoten. She married Arnold B. Stangeland on January 8, 1971 in Rockford.

Alfhild helped Arnold farm in the Lee area for several years while raising their two daughters. She liked to travel and especially enjoyed visiting her family in Norway as well as hosting relatives at her home. Before the pandemic, she frequented the Rochelle Senior Center and was looking forward to attending regular events there again. Alfhild could often be found at the Sunrise Family Restaurant, where she enjoyed visiting with friends and the staff. One of her greatest joys came from hosting family for holidays and cooking for a house full of people.

Alfhild is survived by two daughters, Melissa (Doug) Kanwischer of Bettendorf, IA and Julie (James) McLearen of Woodridge, IL; two grandchildren, Dax and Brynn Kanwischer; a brother, Reidar (Ingunn) Njoten; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Alfhild is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Arnold; two brothers; and two sisters.

The funeral service will be at 12:00 noon on Monday, April 18, 2022, at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th Street in Rochelle with Pastor Jeff Schlesinger officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service on Monday at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Lawnridge Cemetery in Rochelle.
