Obituary

Alicia A. McEniry, 70, of Ashton died Saturday, March 1, 2008, at home. Alicia was born on January 20, 1938 in Harper, IA the daughter of Lester and Lorraine Merz. She graduated from St. Ambrose College Division of Nursing, Davenport, IA, in 1958. She married William J. McEniry on June 24, 1961 in Washington, IA. Alicia was head nurse of Children's Orthopedics at the State University of Iowa's Hospitals until moving to Illinois in 1962. She was the office manager for the Ashton Veterinary Clinic.

Alicia was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Rochelle. She served on the Auxiliary to the Northern Illinois Veterinary Association (Executive Board, Treasurer), Illinois Veterinary Medical Association (President, Treasurer), American Veterinary Medical Association Auxiliary Association (Executive Board, Treasurer). She also served on the Rochelle Community Hospital Foundation and the Executive Board of the Rochelle Community Hospital (Executive Board, Treasurer).

Alicia was preceded in death by an infant son. She is survived by her husband, William J. McEniry; daughter Kelly (Jeff Higginbotham) McEniry of Spotsylvania, VA; sons Patrick (Erin) McEniry, of North Aurora, IL, and Michael McEniry, Los Angeles, CA; grandchildren Logan and Connor McEniry and Clare McEniry; sisters Marilyn (John) Lowe, Maryland, and Maureen (Tobe) Tozier, Ohio; brothers Norman (Mary) Merz, Wisconsin, and Gene Merz ,Colorado; stepmother Marie Merz, Missouri; and many nieces and nephews.

Alicia enjoyed the flowers she received while living. Upon her request, in lieu of flowers donations be sent to St. Patrick Church, St. Vincent DePaul of St. Patrick Church, Ogle County Hospice and Ashton Fire Department.

Funeral mass will be held Wednesday 10:00 a.m. March 5, 2008 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Rochelle. With visitation Tuesday from 4:00-8:00 at Unger-Horner Funeral Home 400 N. 6th Street, Rochelle, IL. Burial at St. Patrick Cemetery.
