Annabel L. Mercer,87, of Rockford, IL, formerly of Holcomb, IL; passed away in her home Sunday September 5, 2010. She was born Nov. 26, 1922 in Poplar Grove, IL to Robert and Helen (Phillips) Vickers. She graduated from Thornton High School in Harvey, IL. For 35 years, she was employed by
Sundstrand in Rockford, IL prior to her retirement. Annabel married John R. Mercer who was killed in action during WWII. She was also preceded by a sister: Marilyn Hansen and brother:
Robert Vickers.
She was an enormous Cub fan who followed the team to spring training for 27 years as well
as taking the occasional trip to California, Wisconsin or the friendly confines to catch a game.
Annabel was a sports enthusiast who traveled to sporting activities for her grandsons and great nephews.
Survivors include a daughter: Jacquelynn (Robert) Swanson of Rockford, IL and sister:
Harriett (Richard) Fiedler of Lake Summerset, IL; 3 grandchildren: Matthew (Richelle)
Swanson of Machesney Park, IL, and Douglas (Michelle) Swanson of Rockford and Michael (Heather) Swanson of Rockford ; 4 great grandchildren: Marie, Ashley, Matthew and Bradley and twin boys to be born in November; as well as many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Unger-Horner Funeral Home, Rochelle, IL, on Friday, Sept. 10, 2010 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Lee Bennight. Visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 9th from 5 to 7 PM at Unger-Horner . Memorials to American Heart Association or to American Cancer Society. Burial at White Rock Cemetery.
