Arthur Paul Haws, Sr., age 80, loving husband, dad, papa, and grandpa, passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2016 in his home in Rochelle with his loving family at his side. He was born June 12, 1935 to Frank and Winifred (Thacker) Haws in Ottawa, IL. He married Alice M. Smith on August 19, 1955 in Moses Lake, WA. Art honorably served with the United States Air Force for 20 years. After that, he worked for Moore's Hardware for many years and was also the club manager for the V.F.W. Post 3878. Art was a member of the American Legion, and life member and past commander of Post 3878. He was actively involved with the youth of his communities, coaching, teaching, and mentoring. He gave willingly of his time and talents, helping kids learn valuable lessons on sportsmanship, honesty and hard work. He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Roger; nine brothers: Ralph, Vincent, William, Gerald, Donald, James, Thomas, Jack and Daniel; and 2 sisters: Judith Hehr and an infant, Darlene.
Art is survived by Alice, his wife of 60 years; three sons: Arthur (Sherry Inness) Haws, Jr. of Lindenwood, IL, Gary (Shelley) Haws of Rochelle and Gregory (Catherine Benthal) Haws of Elgin, IL; daughter, Susan (Douglas) Fugate of Milton, WI; sister: Diane Tilton of Creston, IL and 10 grandchildren: Amanda (Kyle Johnson) Fugate, Zachary (Sara) Fugate, Arthur P. (Daisy) Haws III, Andrew David (Tasha Gomez) Haws, Nicholas (Angela) Haws, Jonathan (Ashley) Haws, Sr., Jacob Haws, Joshua Haws, Alicia Haws, and Annmarie (Alex Martinez) Haws; 15 great grandchildren: Alexis, Jocelyn, Isaiah, Evelyn, Uriah, Lillian, Elizabeth, Jonathan Jr., baby boy due in May, Kaylin, Kameron, Kyle, Iziekiel, Izierus, and Emilio; 4 sisters-in-law: Janice, Berniece and Eva Haws, and JoAnne Freeman, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be at 6:00 P.M., Saturday, January 30, 2016 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th St., Rochelle with Chaplain Judy Williams officiating. The visitation will be from 4:00 - 5:50 P.M., Saturday prior to the funeral service. Cremation rites will follow the service.
