Arthur William Snyder (1931-2014)
Arthur W. Snyder, age 83, of Rochelle died peacefully, anxious to be with wife, on Thursday, Dec. 4th, 2014, at the Pine Acres Care Center in DeKalb, IL. He was born April 17, 1931 in Oglesby, the son of Martin and Helen Snyder. He married his beloved wife of nearly 59 years, Jean M. Elliott, on Nov. 17, 1951.
He retired from Rochelle Foods after 36 years in the same building, although the company changed names many times since he started, beginning as Swift & Co. He was a longstanding member of the First Baptist Church of Rochelle, even though recent health has kept him away. Art & Jean enjoyed their time of fellowship with all the new friends made there.
Art's biggest joy may have been his only granddaughter, who he loved to spend time with, especially camping with her and Grandma.
A die hard Cubs fan, he, along with so many others, suffered through endless seasons of disappointment. Art loved John Wayne, as evident by his large movie collection, belt buckles, and wall hangings.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; son, John Snyder; two grandchildren, Paul W. Snyder Jr., and Alison Marie Snyder; brother, Fr Andrew Snyder, and sister, Eleanor Stasiak.
Survivors include his son, Paul W. (Leslie Ann) Snyder Sr.; sister, Virginia Wren.
Visitation will be held from noon-1:00 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8, 2014, at the Unger Horner Funeral Home, 400 N Sixth St. in Rochelle. Funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
Burial will be at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Rochelle with military services provided by the Eastern-Lee Ogle Honor Guard.
