Audrey F. Taylor, 93, passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2019 in Rochelle. Audrey was born on December 8, 1925 on a farm north of Ashton to Charles L. and Winifred M. (Furman) Altenburg. She attended Ashton schools and graduated from both Kings and Stillman Valley High Schools. During WWII, she worked at an airplane factory in Long Beach, California. Prior to marriage she also worked at Krogers. Audrey married Glen E. Taylor on December 2, 1949 in Rochelle. He preceded her in death on March 13, 2015. In addition to her parents and husband, she is predeceased by all four of her brothers: William, Ivan, Murray and Zane.
Audrey served on the Rochelle Ladies Fire Department Auxiliary for over 40 years. Until recent years, she enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and couldn't start her day until she finished the puzzle in the daily newspaper. She loved all cats and at one time had 30 cats when she lived on the farm. Audrey enjoyed traveling, visiting Bora Bora, Hawaii, Alaska, the mountains out west, and spending the winters in Las Vegas. Summers were thoroughly enjoyed at the cabin on Geneva Lake. She was a faithful Chicago Bears and Tiger Woods fan. She endured many health issues through out her long life, including beating cancer multiple times. Audrey will be remembered as a strong woman, good mother and grandmother.
Audrey is survived by her two sons: William Earl (Nancy) Taylor of Fontana, WI and Andrew Ray (Carole) Taylor of Rochelle and two grandchildren: Amber LeeTaylor and Guy William Taylor; sister-in-law, Kay Altenburg; and six nephews and three nieces.
Cremation care has been provided by the Unger-Horner Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at Lawnridge Cemetery in Rochelle with Chaplain Judy Williams officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Audrey's memory to Serenity Hospice and Home, Rochelle Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center or a local animal shelter.
