August "Augie" C. Schabacker, 89, formerly of Chana, passed away Saturday, April 20, 2019 at the Serenity Hospice Home in Oregon. Augie was born August 13, 1929 in Rochelle, the son of Frederick and Maxine (Hauser) Schabacker. He married Norma Zell on September 1, 1950 in Rochelle.

Augie proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953. He was a member of the Floyd J. Tilton VFW Post #3878. Augie loved gardening, fishing with his grandsons, and watching his grandson's sporting events. He especially loved spending time with his dog, Rascal.

Augie is survived by his wife of 70 years, Norma; daughter, Karla Schabacker; three grandsons, Josh (fianceé Katryna Christoffel) Holm, Justin Holm, and Mike Mlejnek; six sisters: Caroline Kessen, Martha (Harry) Travis, Dolores Willis, Elaine (Bill) Powell, Joyce Schabacker, and Mildred (Don) Allen; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Augie is preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Thursday, April 25, 2019, at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th St. in Rochelle.

Funeral service will be at 10 AM on Friday, April 26, 2019, at the funeral home with Pastor Dave Rogula officiating. Interment will follow in Trinity Memory Gardens.
