Rochelle

Beatrice "Peggy" L. Phipps, 94, passed away Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at OSF St. Anthony's Hospital in Rockford, Illinois. Peggy was born on December 10, 1927 in Rochelle to Dave and Althea (Coombes) Meisener. Since both parents died in 1930, Peggy and her sisters, Maurine and Vivian lived with their oldest sister, Etta Mae. She attended Rochelle schools, graduating from Rochelle Township High School in 1945. From 1945 to June, 1949, she was the receptionist for local dentists: L.W. Masters, C.E. Motlong and J.S. Wilson.

On March 31, 1949, Peggy married Richard S. Phipps of Steward in Rochelle's Old Brick Methodist Church. She was wife, mother and homemaker until July 1967 when she re-entered the work force as an employee of Rochelle Printing, retiring in May, 2006.

She was a member of the Rochelle Methodist Church since her confirmation in 1939, a member of the Order of Eastern Star sine 1951 and a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of V.F.W. Post #3878.

Peggy is survived by her four daughters: Marcia Forlenza of Zion, IL, Pamela (Gayle) Phipps of Loves Park, IL, Paula Phipps of Fayetteville, AR and Ellen Phipps Brown of Lexington, KY; two sons: Jerry (Janet) Phipps of Gainesville, FL and Jim Phipps of Rochelle; sister, Maurine Busdosh of Phoenix, AZ; three grandchildren: Jennifer Forlenza, Dr. Alex (Grace) Phipps, and Aimee (PJ) Joanos; three great grandsons; two great granddaughters and two great great granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; sons-in-law, Chris Brown and Dan Forlenza; six sisters and her brother killed in WWII.

A memorial visitation will be from 10:00 - 11:30 A.M., Saturday, November 12, 2022 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th St., Rochelle. The memorial service will follow at 11:30 A.M. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Peggy's memory to the Benevolent Fund of the Rochelle United Methodist Church.
