Bettie Ruth Withers passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at the age of 91. She was born on April 4, 1925 to Merrell and Marie Fosdick in Beloit, Wisconsin. She was the youngest of four girls. She grew up in North Freedom, Wisconsin during the Great Depression. Following a tragic fire which destroyed the family home in North Freedom and all of their belongings, the family moved to Chana, Illinois.
Bettie attended elementary school in Chana, and went on to graduate from Ashton Community High School in Ashton, Illinois in 1944. After high school Bettie relocated to Rochelle, Illinois where she met and married James C. Withers in September of 1966. She worked Caron International for over 30-years prior to retiring in 1989. She was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son, William James Kump, and three sisters, Alice Crane, Irene Gilroy, and Evelyn Dommer.
Survived by her husband, James C. "J.C." Withers of Rochelle; son, Jim L. (Lauren) Withers of Elk Grove Village, Illinois; daughter, Marybeth Criddle of Rochelle, and step daughter, Shelly Withers of Rochelle; 7 grandchildren: Michael James Withers, Daniel Louis Withers, Alyssa Ann Withers, Mia Grace Withers, Christine Marie Doering, Tiffany Raquel Vaughn, and Richard Lee Huffstatler; and numerous great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be on Monday, June 13, 2016 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church located at 1415 10th Ave, Rochelle, Illinois with Pastor Greg Hoffmann officiating.
