Bobby Joe Johnson, 78, of Malta, Illinois went home to be with his Savior on November 20, 2013. He went to meet Jesus peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family.
Bobby was born in Scott County, Missouri on November 11, 1935 to Charley and Ella May Johnson. He served his country as a medic in the United States Army from 1958 to 1960 and was Honorably Discharged as a PFC. He married Colleen Brown of Wyatt, Missouri on September 23, 1963.
Everyone who knew him loved him for his easygoing, kind ways. He never met a stranger and would do anything to help anyone. He worked many jobs in the local area to include years of service at Contel/GTE, Rochelle Nursing Center, NIU, Village of Malta, Malta School District, and Bethany Animal Hospital. Bobby and Colleen served the Lord over thirty years at Creston Baptist and are currently members of Fellowship Baptist Church in DeKalb.
He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Colleen Johnson of Malta, two children, Kimberly (Jeff) Smith of Port Saint Lucie, Florida, and Scott (Terri) Johnson of DeKalb, Illinois, five grandchildren, Jacob, Christopher, and Tyler Smith of Port Saint Lucie, Florida, Chad (Lindsay) Batorski of Madison, Wisconsin, Sarah Johnson of DeKalb, Illinois, and one great-grandchild, Raelin Batorski of Madison, Wisconsin.
His parents, two brothers, and four sisters precede him in death.
Visitation services will be held Friday, November 22, 2013 from 4 to 7 PM at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th Street, Rochelle, Illinois. Funeral service will be Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 2 PM at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home. Graveside memorial to follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens.
