Brian J. Mungai, 35, of Rochelle, passed away suddenly at his home on Thursday, July 16, 2009. Born June 8, 1974 in Chicago, IL, Brian is the son of Nadine Jean (Blazevich) and the late Lee Wayne Mungai. Brian grew up in Naperville, Illinois and graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University with a degree in Mathematics in 1996. He recently received his Master's Degree in Education from Rockford College.

Brian taught Math at Rochelle Township High School, serving as the girl's varsity softball coach until 2006, and was head coach for the boy's freshman football team from 1997 to 2005.

On July 16, 2005, Brian married Kelly Lynn Richter in Belleville, Illinois. They reside in Rochelle with their daughters Taylor Marie, age 3, and Sophia Anna Lee, 8 months of age.

Brian is preceded in death by his father, Lee Wayne Mungai; paternal grandparents Norma Mungai Bobowski and Ray Mungai; maternal grandparents John and Nada Blazevich; step grandfather Al Bobowski; and uncles, Sal Nuccio and Ron Galligani.

Survivors include his wife, Kelly and two daughters: Taylor Marie and Sophia Anna Lee of Rochelle, IL; Mother: Nadine Mungai of Naperville, IL; Aunts: Lana Nuccio of Lockport, IL, Elvera Malinowski of Aurora, IL; Tonie (Dan) Harrington of Downers Grove, IL; Dorie Fabry of Houston, TX; and Uncle Ed (Teri Terrazino) Bobowski of Darien, IL; Father-in-law: Charles Richter of Breese, IL; Mother-in-law Jean (Don) Bujnak of Belleville, IL; Sisters-in-law: Wendy (Mike) Christ of Swansea, IL, Dawn (Eric) Roeckenhaus of Breese, IL, and Beth Richter of Breese, IL.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 23, 2009 at 10:30 AM at Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th St. in Rochelle, IL. Visitation at Unger-Horner Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 22nd from 3 to 8 PM. Cremation rites will follow the services.
