Carl W. Anderson, Jr., 88, passed away Monday, October 17, 2016 at his home in Rochelle. Carl was born November 13, 1927 to Carl W., Sr. and Julia (Nielson) Anderson in Aurora, IL. He was a US Army Veteran and served from 1946-48. He married Mary Diane Concidine on February 20, 1954 in DeKalb, IL. Carl worked for many years for Swift & Co. and then for the City of Rochelle. He had a special knack for gardening; always having beautiful flowers and loved sharing vegetables with neighbors and friends. The highlight of his life was his four granddaughters. Carl always had time for potbelly pigs, hatching ducks, carving pumpkins and swinging. He is preceded in death by his son, Carl "Bill" Anderson III, on January 20, 2016 and two sisters: Esther (Ken) Detwiller and Alice (Larry) Teeling.

Carl is survived by his wife, Mary; daughter, Kathy (Steve) Sawlsville of Wyomissing, PA; sister, Wilda (George) Bertochinni of Hampshire, IL; four granddaughters: Kimberly (Mike) Zeiders, Kristine (Joseph Teahl) Sawlsville, Amanda Sawlsville and Lisa Anderson; and great granddaughter, Greta Zeiders.

The visitation will be from 4:00 - 6:15 P.M., Friday, October 21, 2016 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th St., Rochelle. The funeral service will follow at 6:30 P.M., Friday with Chaplain Judy Williams officiating. Cremation rites will follow the service. Memorials may be made to Unity Hospice of Rochelle.
