Obituary

Carl Marvin Hill, 97, passed away on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at his home. Carl was born February 16, 1917 near Creston, IL to Oscar C. and Olive A. (Ravnaas) Hill. He married Marie Jose Brown on April 11, 1953 in Lee, IL. He was a baptized, confirmed member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Lee. He graduated from Rochelle Township High School and was awarded the Silver R. Carl was a life-long farmer in the Creston area. He was drafted into the Army of the United States on June 23, 1941. He was commissioned as an officer on June 5, 1942, honorably discharged with the rank of Captain on January 26, 1946 having been awarded 7 medals, the Bronze Star Medal and 5 Campaign Medals. Carl was President of the Rochelle Community Hospital Association Board, 1975 Rochelle Community Leader of the Year, Rotary Club Paul Harris Fellow, Vice President of the Northern Illinois Synod ELCA, a member of numerous school, community and Farm Bureau boards and a scoutmaster of Boy Scouts of America.

Carl is survived by his wife, Marie, his sister, Ruth Cornils, his brother O. Donald Hill and four children: Paul, and Mark (Dee) Hill of Rochelle, Beth (William) of California and Ann of Colorado; seven grandchildren: Steve Hill, Amy (Tyler) Swinson, Brittany (Aaron) Samp, Benjamin Hill, Hannah Page Moeller, Sydney and Georgia Brookstein; two great-grandchildren: Riley and Reagan Samp.

Carl was preceded in death by his brothers: Orson and Arvene Hill, sister, Ann Ohlinger and infant daughter, Carla Jo.

The funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M., Monday, June 9, 2014 at Calvary Lutheran Church 19 Perry Rd, Lee IL, with Pastor Craig Nelson officiating. The visitation will be prior to the funeral service from 9:00 to 10:45. Cremation rights will follow the funeral. Military honors will be provided by the Eastern Lee/Ogle Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Serenity Hospice and Home or Calvary Lutheran Church.
