Carl Richard Kempson, 46, of Brookfield, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 18, 2024.  Born May 4, 1977 in Dixon, Illinois to Gene Kempson and Jerri Lynn (Roberts) Kempson.  He graduated from Rochelle Township High School in 1995 and Northern Illinois University in 2003 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.  Carl then started an internship at TTX, Inc., a railcar company in Chicago, Illinois, where he was eventually hired full-time in 2005.  He was promoted several times at TTX to his final position as the Fleet Mechanical & Technical Advisory Manager.  He was proud of his loyal service to TTX over the past 20+ years.

But Carl's proudest accomplishment was parenting his young son, Charlie of Brookfield.  He is survived by his sister, Karen (John) Clementi of Boulder Hill; and his father, Gene (Kelly) Kempson in Rochelle.  Carl is also survived by the mother of his son and excellent co-parenting partner, Kristen of Brookfield, as well as his nieces, a nephew, and many cousins, aunts, and uncles.  We all loved him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Jerri Lynn; his younger sister, Sara; and his grandparents.

Strong values were of utmost importance to Carl. He was a loyal friend and stepped up to help anyone and everyone around him, no questions asked.   He loved being a playful, fun father and uncle.  Carl was often the instigator and always a willing participant in any kind of pranks, hijinks, "monkey-shines" (as Grandma K always said), and most of all, shenanigans.  He liked eating grape candies and hot sauce.  Carl's quick wit and teasing humor was endearing.  He always loved the outdoors and animals, especially their family dog and guinea pig.  His older sister saved him from his 5th grade bully, and she never let him live it down.  Some of Carl's favorite things included fishing, fireworks, faith, and, most of all, family.  Carl's two favorite people were his dad and his son – both of whom could use prayers and kindness at this difficult time.
