Rochelle

Carmel Maureen Klein, 96, of Rochelle, Illinois, formerly of Baltimore, Maryland passed away on Sunday, April 27, 2025 at Franklin Grove Nursing Home in Franklin Grove, IL.  Carmel was born in Storm Lake, IA, August 08, 1928 to Matthias V. and Julia (McFadden) Roethler.  She first married John A. LaRue and together they had two sons, Todd and John Kevin.  After the divorce, she later married Henry Klein who preceded her in death.

Carmel was a devout Catholic and a faithful member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Rochelle.  She spent most of her adult life working in and around Baltimore, where she was employed by Standard Carpet and later by the Social Security Administration.  Upon retiring, Carmel found her greatest joy as a nanny to the Gloth family children,  Paul, Katy, Alex and Michael, a role she cherished deeply.  In 2001, Carmel moved to Rochelle to be closer to family. She loved the Vowels family, often spending birthdays and holidays with them.

She was preceded  in death by her husbands, her parents; her brother, Tom; her sister, Pat; her son, John Kevin and her grandson, Jon Michael.

She is survived by her son, Todd, granddaughters: Cassandra (Lance) Headon and Alexis LaRue;  grandsons: Daniel Eubank, Matthew LaRue, and Michael LaRue, and nine great-grandchildren.

Carmel's family would also like to acknowledge Mary Erdman, her devoted caregiver and friend, who cared for her for many years.

In accordance to her wishes, Carmel will be cremated.  A funeral mass will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Rochelle, IL on Monday, May 19, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. with Father Jesus Dominguez officiating.
