Obituary

Carole Lynn Stangley Rice, 73, of Rochelle passed away on Saturday July 21, 2012 at Serenity Home and Hospice in Oregon, IL, after a courageous two year battle with Myelodysplastic Syndrome and Leukemia. A special thank you to Dr. Fauzia Khattak of Swedish American Cancer Center and Dr. Ryan Mattison of the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine.

She was born on July 22, 1938, in Gary, IN to Oscar and Dorothy F. (Skinner) Stangley. As
a preschool child, she experienced polio. She graduated from Rochelle Township High School
in 1956. Carole was employed by Caron International from 1964 to1985. She started working
only during the hours her children were in school and ended her career as Administrative Assistant for both the President and the Director of Manufacturing. From 1985 to 2000, she was
a sales representative for UARCO Business Forms in DeKalb, IL. During her retirement, she enjoyed painting, wood carving, gardening, volunteering her time, traveling, being a home maker, keeping her family close and being a God-seeker.

Survivors include: Greg Obourn, her best friend, trusted partner and the love of her life for 31
years; son: Christopher (Debbie) Rice of Ottawa, IL; daughter: Lizabeth Rice of DesMoines, IA;
grandson: Tyler "TJ" Rice and granddaughter: Chloe Lynn Rice of Ottawa; bonus grandchildren: Eric Williams of Bloomington, IL, Aaron Williams and his daughter: Hannah of
Ottawa, IL and Heidi (Randy) Sharp and their daughter: Brooklyn of Chenoa, IL; sisters: Cheri
(Jerry) Divine of Frisco, CO and Connie (Nick) Agnos of Rochelle; brother: George (Pam) Stangley of Rochelle and her loyal companion: a little white dog named Miss Daisy.

Services will be held at the Rochelle United Methodist Church on Tuesday, July 24 2012, at 11:00 AM with Rev. Cindy Marino and Chaplain Judy Williams. Visitation from 4 to 7 PM at Unger-Horner Funeral Home on Monday, July 23. Cremation will follow.
