Charles Curtis Ellis, age 77, passed away on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at his home in Rockford. He was born on June 19, 1936 in Johnsonville, IL, the son of Virgil and Leona Brown Ellis. Charles married Katherine B. Thomas, she preceded him in 1973, he then married Emily J. Crocket in 1995, and she preceded him in 2006. He took care of the Ashton Cemetery for 5 years then retired as a custodian from Rochelle Township High School in 1989. He is preceded in death by his parents, son, Charles L. Ellis in 2005 and his sister, Shelby McCannon.
Survived by his 2 sons: Thomas Ray (Penny) Ellis of Ashton, and Larry James (Christina Kelly) Ellis of Corona, California; 6 grandchildren: Steven James Ellis of Ashton, Mark Ray Ellis of DeKalb, Charles Joseph "Chuck" (Cassia) Ellis of Ashton, Thomas Ray Ellis, Jr. of Rochelle, Katie Ann Ellis of DeKalb, and Charles Edward Ellis of Rochelle; 3 great grandchildren: Jayla Marie Ellis, Tessa Elizabeth Ellis, and Paisley Ann Ellis; 2 brothers: Rick (Nancy) Ellis of Johnsonville, IL, and Bill Ellis of Mt. Vernon, IL; 3 sisters: Mona (Galen) Hole of Rockford, Kay Smith of Chicago, and Judy (Jim) Smith of Rockford; and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 13, 2014 at Trinity Memory Gardens, Rochelle. Unger Horner Funeral Home, 400 N 6th St., Rochelle is assisting the family.
