Charles R. "Smokey" Hufford, 86, passed away in his home town of Rochelle, Saturday, May 6, 2017. He was born January 3, 1931 in Sugar Grove, the son of Ira and Anna (Heckman) Hufford. Charles is preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Hufford, and step-son, Leonard Pollock. Most people knew Charles as "Smokey". Smokey loved to Bowl and Fish and he was a serial entrepreneur, owning the Butterfly Bakery, Catering Companies, Wood Working Shops, Tool and Die Shops, and he invented the "Sketch N Route". An outgoing fun loving guy that was a fixture throughout the communities of Rochelle, Rock Falls, Mt. Morris, and Rockford.
Charles is survived by his four children, Jeffrey (Annie) Hufford of Chicago, Robert (Bonnie) Hufford of Lake Delton, WI; Bradley (Cathie) Hufford of Oxford, WI and step-daughter Donna Norman of Amboy; grandchildren, Eric (Sarah), Jason (Cali Anne), Christopher (Jessica), Nathan, Jenna and Emerson Ann Hufford, step-grandchildren: Jason (Tammy) Norman, Jennifer (Mark Milburn) Norman and David Pollock; two sisters, Mary Anne Baker of Rochelle and Kaylynn Bender of Watertown, WI; and great-grandchildren, Carter, Chase, Aspen, Noah, Evelyn, Kaydence and Halle; step-grandchildren: Ashley, Austin, Autumn, David, Logan, Tori and McKennzie.
A memorial service will take place at 11:30 A.M. on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th Street in Rochelle. Visitation will be from 9:30 A.M. -11:30 A.M. immediately prior to the service at the funeral home. Cremation rites have been accorded. Burial will take place at a later date.
