Charles Heenen Mershon, 70, Rochelle, IL, passed away peacefully in his home, early morning on Friday, March 1 after a long battle with leukemia. Constance (Connie) L. Mershon, 71, beloved wife of 49 years, survives him. He is also survived by five sons, Brian (Tracey) of Greenville, SC; Barry (Kathy), of Rockford; Michael (Amy) of Davis Junction; Christopher (Tara), Carpentersville, IL; and Mark (Lori Hensley) of Rockford; and nineteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, who loved him dearly.
Chuck was the second youngest of seven children of the late Harold and Ruth Mershon. He is also survived by his sister Marilyn (Marvin) Alderks, Rochelle, and brothers Jack (Barb) of Oregon, IL and Jim (Donna) of Byron.
Chuck retired eight years ago from ConAgra in St. Charles, IL where he worked for 42 years as a maintenance mechanic. He enjoyed his retirement years traveling to the West and Southwest U.S., playing golf and enjoying his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a devoted husband and father, who, quietly and humbly modeled charity, commitment, holiness and patience for his sons, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 5 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Unger-Horner Funeral Home in Rochelle with a Rosary Service at 7 pm. The funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Rochelle on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at 10:30 am.
