Obituary

Clarence "Van" Vanlaningham, 75 of Rochelle, passed away on Friday, Aug. 6, 2010 at

St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, IL. He was born on Aug. 17, 1934 in Tonica, IL the son of Merlin Robert and Lydia ( Mertz) Vanlaningham. He married Doris Bond Feb. 22, 1972 and she preceded on March 14, 1975. He was also preceded by a brother: Ellsworth. Van worked for 25 year for Alderks Tire Co. and as a fuel driver for Kelley Williamson. Member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, and loved his hobby of woodcarving.

Survivors include his companion of 32 years: Carol Shempert of Rochelle; and her children:

son: Craig (Joscelyn) Shempert of Austin, TX; daughter: Constance Jacobs of Tucson, AZ;

brother: Merlin LeRoy Vanlaningham of FL; two sisters: Marilyn George of Lostant, IL and

Joyce Kofoid of Dyer, IN; grandchildren: Matthew, Eric and Melanie Shempert and Andrew,

Frederic, Christopher and Laurie Jacobs; and his beloved parrot: Sam.

Services will be held Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Unger-Horner Funeral Home in Rochelle. Visitation will be Monday, Aug. 9th from 4 to 7 PM at Unger-Horner. Memorial to

Hub City Senior Center. Burial at First Lutheran Cemetery in Lee, IL.
