Dallas was born March 15, 1939, to Roland and Grace (Strang) Huntley in the family farm house five miles southwest of Chana on what is now known as Sportsman Club Road in Ogle County. Later in life, Dallas would be known as "Lant" as he was named after his great uncle, Alanson Huntley, also called Lant.
Lant was raised on the family farm where he developed a deep love for the outdoor world. He attended both Rochelle and Ashton schools and managed Spring Lake in Rochelle during summers. Lant attended Northern Illinois, Southern Illinois University and Western Illinois University. Upon graduation, he taught school, served as District Scout Executive for the Boy Scouts of America and was Park Ranger at White Pines Forest State Park.
The year of 1978, Lant became certified with the International Society of Arboriculture where he remained active throughout the next forty years. Lant, a Certified Arborist, was the owner of Huntley Woods Tree Research Facility near Oregon, Illinois. Lant once said, "He never thought of it as a job--it was a way of life.”
Dallas is survived by his three daughters: Melissa (John) Green of Fernandina Beach, FL, Carrie Grimail of Tampa, FL and Suzan (Michael) Monsky of Clearwater Beach, FL; six grandchildren: Elizabeth, Hunter, Logan, Olivia, Garrett and Nicole; and sister-in-law, Norma Huntley of Chana.
Dallas was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Margene Rager, and Dellouise Greenfield and brother, Don Huntley.
