Obituary

Hunter "Dan" Downey, 65, of Rochelle, IL, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012, surrounded by his family at Rochelle Rehabilitation Center. He was born on Feb. 2, 1947 in Stanley, VA to
Billie G. and Sudie M. (Weakly) Downey. He graduated from Rochelle Township High School in 1965 and directly joined the U.S. Army. Dan married Peggy Paul on May 8, 1965 in Creston, IL.

Dan was a devoted son, husband, father and grandfather, who always put his family first. He was
an avid outdoorsman who loved to go hunting, fishing, camping and in his younger years, scuba diving. He loved to travel with his family and took them with him when he was stationed in Germany, Panama and many states across the U.S. He loved his country and proudly served in the U.S. Army for 23 years.

He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and sister: Billie Sue Johnson.

Survivors include his wife: Peggy of Rochelle; 4 children: Teresa (Todd) Haggestad, Michelle Fuentes, Daniel(Kami) Downey and Charles Downey; 9 grandchildren: Christopher Kuether, Ian Downey, Logan Haggestad, Brendan Downey, Charles Downey, Hunter Haggestad, Thalia Fuentes, Trevor Downey, and Jackson Bortney; brother: John (Diane) Downey; and sister: Pattie (Mike) Vorias.

The family would like to thank the staff of Ogle Co. Serenity Hospice and Home and Rochelle
Rehabilitation, and Health Care Center for all their care and love.

Dan will be buried with full Military Honors at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA,
at a date yet to be determined. Cremation rites were arranged by Unger-Horner Funeral Home. Memorials can be made
to Serenity Hospice and Home.
