Obituary

Danny Joe Meserole, 67, of Dubuque, IA, died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012 at home surrounded by family. He was born on April 16, 1944, at home in Burnt Prairie, IL, the son of Clyde James and Etta Genevieve (Starns) Meserole. He graduated from Shabbona High School in 1962. Joe was a member of the Shabbona High School Championship Basketball Team and was inducted into the Shabbona High School Sports Hall of Fame. Joe attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering. He was a Vietnam War veteran. Joe was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, where he worked on early warning radar. He served in the Army from 1964 – 1967. He married Alice Bush on February 17, 1968. Joe worked for IBM for 25 years and most recently for Fijitsu for 15 years. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America's Order of the Arrow and also served as the District Commissioner. Joe was a lifelong fan of the Chicago Bears, Chicago Bulls and the Chicago Cubs. He also enjoyed cooking and refereeing and coaching soccer. He looked forward every year to the annual IGWANA wine tasting trip.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Alice Meserole, of Dubuque, IA. He had two daughters, Denise (Brian) Cavanaugh, of Dubuque, IA and Beth Meserole, of Rochester, MN. He also had two sons, John (Patricia) Meserole, of Washington, IA and Andrew (Alana) Meserole, of Dubuque, IA. A brother, Robert (Sharon) Meserole, of Belvidere, IL and two sisters; Faye (Hershel) Woolbright, Loves Park, IL and Betty (Chuck) Davidson, Rochelle, IL. He had 15 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Michelle (Scott) Lowden, and a brother, James Meserole.
Visitation will be on Friday, January 27, 2012 from 4 – 7 PM at the St. Patrick's Parish Center, 244 Kelley Dr., Rochelle, IL. Funeral service will be at 10:30 AM on Saturday at St. Patrick's Church, Rochelle.
Full military rites will be given by the Eastern-Lee Ogle Honor Guard, with burial at the St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery.
