David A. "Smitty" Smith, 56, passed away Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at home. Smitty was born May 28, 1959 to Gardner J. and Margaret E. (Walker) Smith in DeKalb, Illinois. He married Julie Edwards September 20, 2015 in Steward, IL. Smitty was a many generation farmer on the Smith Farm and was also a Local 150 operator for 26 years. He loved Harley Davidson motorcycles and especially spending time with his many friends. Smitty spent his first and last days on the farm he loved.

He was preceded in death by his father; brother, Donald Smith and sister, Elaine Schmidt.

Smitty is survived by his wife, Julie; mother, Margaret of Steward; three children: Josh (Sarah) Smith of Waterman, IL, Justin (Andrea) Smith of Torrington, WY and Brooke (Chris Cox) Smith of Minatare, NE; brother, Richard (Kathy Taylor) Smith of Hickory Corner, MI; sister, Sharen (Jack) Thompson of Steward, IL; two grandchildren: Tucker Smith and McKenzie Smith and his loyal "dope on a rope" dog, Harley.

A memorial service will be held at 5:00 P.M., Sunday, October 4, 2015 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th St., Rochelle with Chaplain Judy Williams officiating.
