On Sunday, September 18, 2016, David Brian Watson, 52, peacefully passed away at St. Anthony Hospital in Rockford, IL. Dave was born March 18, 1964 in Rochelle, IL to Kenneth and Eleanor Watson. As a child, Dave was passionate about Judo and was a member of the NCIJA Judo Team for over 10 years. He competed both nationally and internationally and won several titles including State Champion for two consecutive years in 1973 and 1974. His favorite party trick that he loved to show off was that he could still do the splits as well now as he could when he was in his judo prime. In high school, Dave was known as a friend to everyone and could be seen cutting squares in his beloved black Supra. Once he graduated from RTHS, he went on to become an Iron Worker. Dave's hobbies included playing poker, hunting and fishing, spending time with family and friends and singing "The Wonderer" at any given opportunity. His infectious smile and loving personality will be greatly missed by everyone who knew the real Dave Watson. He was truly one of a kind and will forever be in our hearts.


Dave is preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Watson of Rochelle; grandparents: Lee and Helen Watson and Edward and Mary Bunger; and two uncles: Lawrence and Pete Watson. Dave is survived by three children: Carly Watson of Rochelle, Adam Watson of Rochelle and Maddie Watson of Dixon; wife, Susan Watson of Oregon; mother, Eleanor Watson of Rochelle; two brothers: Larry (Sharon) Watson of Rochelle and Jimmy (Cathy) Watson of Dixon; sister, Patty (Gary) Coons of Rochelle; niece, Sandi Coons of Rochelle and countless other family members and friends whom he loved like family.
