Obituary

Donald J. Hansen, age 73 of Rochelle, passed away on Monday, Sept. 18, 2006 at his home
with his family by his side. He was born on May 11, 1933 in Elgin, IL, the son of Fred and Ethel (Janecke) Hansen. Don married Arlene J. Wede on June 2, 1956 in Itasca, IL and this past June celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Don was a hog and grain farmer for over 45 years. He served in the Korean War as a cryptographer stationed at the Little Pentagon in Tokyo, Japan from 1953-1955. He was a life member of the VFW Post 3878, a past Commander and served on the Honor Guard. He was a past president of the Creston School Board, a member of the Elim Reformed Church and was a licensed Ham Radio Operator. He enjoyed collecting antique tractors, fishing and spending his summers at their cabin on the lake in Canada and traveling around the world. Preceding him in death were his parents and 2 brothers: Clarence and David, his twin.

Survivors include his wife: Arlene of Rochelle, 3 sons: Wayne (Fay) Hansen of Rockford, Garry Hansen of Esmond, IL, Glenn (Angie) Hansen of Rochelle; 2 daughters: Diane (Randy) Monson of Rochelle and Karen (Marty) Feldhaus of Davis Junction, IL; 11 grandchildren: Jeff & Angela Monson and Ashley, Adam & Nolan Hansen all of Rochelle; Kyle, Mary & Emily Hansen of Esmond, and Jacob, Nicole & Joshua Feldhaus of Davis Junction; 1 step grandchild: Micky (Jessamy) Harville of Trinity, AL; 3 step great grandchildren: Devin, Madeline & Alexandra Harville of Trinity, AL; brother: George (Winifred) Hansen of Sarasota, FL, sister-in-law: Elvern Albrecht of Elgin, IL and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N 6th St., Rochelle, on Friday, Sept. 22, 2006 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Kurt Kruger officiating. Visitation will be held
Thursday from 4 to 8 PM and also Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 prior to the funeral service.
Burial will be at Trinity Memory Gardens in Rochelle with Military Services by VFW Post 3878.
