Donald J. Hruby, 87, passed away peacefully Friday, August 21, 2015 in his home surrounded by his family. Don was born November 14, 1927 to John G. and Margaret E. (Holler) Hruby in Harvey, Illinois. He proudly served in the United States Navy and then in the United States Army between 1948 - 1960. Don married Elaine Anna Denz on June 10, 1950 in Chicago. He was a physics teacher and Division Head of Math and Science for District 214 in Arlington Heights for many years. He was an avid reader and photographer. Don was a lifelong pianist and music arranger, creator of science related stories about phenomenarkia and wrote a quarterly newsletter for The Town Home Association for over 13 years. He would faithfully read books every night to Elaine ranging from Sherlock Holmes to Harry Potter.

Don is preceded in death by his parents; half brother, George E. Hruby; step-sister, Helen Burner and grandson, Joseph P. Connor.

Don is survived by his wife of 65 years, Elaine, three children: Kathy (Dennis) Connor of Rochelle, IL, Linda (Richard Twitchell) Hruby of Gurnee, IL and Joe (Bruce Elsass) Hruby of Woodbury, CT; two grandchildren: Meghan (Jim) Purcell and Chris Connor and two great-grandchildren: Connor and Hudson Purcell.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, August 29, 2015 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 236 Kelley Drive, Rochelle with Father Johnson Lopez officiating. The visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M., Friday, August 28 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th St., Rochelle. Burial will follow the service at Lawnridge Cemetery in Rochelle.
