Obituary

Donald Raymond McBride, of Rochelle, age 74, died on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at the Serenity Home in Oregon, IL, after a two year battle with cancer. He was born on Nov. 16, 1937 in Detroit, MI to Howard T. and Evelyn E. (Raymond) McBride. He attended Lincoln Grade School and Rochelle Township High School and in 1956, he was awarded the Hackett Trophy. Don enjoyed football, westerns, fishing and hunting. As a teenager, he hunted coon with Dr. Ivan Elliott and later with Ben Palmer, hunting rabbits and pheasants with their beagles. Don was an avid Chicago Bears fan. He loved people and had friends of all ages and walks of life. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, practical jokes and wit. He retired June 30, 2005 as Maintenance Director for District 231 Grade Schools with 25 years of service.

Survivors include his significant life long companion: Marjorie Kuehl of Rochelle brothers: Howard (Alice Leander) McBride Jr., Fred McBride and Tom McBride all of Rochelle and Jim (Gaye) McBride of Ashton; brother-in-law: Russell Cooper of Des Moines, IA; special cousin:
Marilyn (Leo) Cloutier of Ormand Beach, FL; 8 nephews; 7 nieces and many grand nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother: Bob, who died in infancy; sisters: Mary McBride, Phyllis McBride Cooper; sister-in-law: Diane McBride; and nephew: Adam Kemp.

Visitation will be held at Unger-Horner Funeral Home in Rochelle, on Thursday, May 24, 2012 from 4 to 7 PM. Services will be held at Unger-Horner, on Friday, May 25, 2012 at 10:00 AM,
with Rev. Marvin Metzger. Memorials to St. Paul Lutheran Church or Serenity Home and Hospice. Burial at Lawnridge Cemetery in Rochelle.
