Obituary
Donald E. Smith, 85 of Hillcrest, IL passed away on Friday, Dec. 23, 2011 at St Anthony Hospital Rockford, IL. He was born on Sept. 16, 1926 in Opdyke, IL to Mr. and Clarence J. and Bessie (Wilson) Smith. Don married Velma I. Payne on Feb. 26, 1945 in Mt. Vernon, IL. Prior to retiring, he owned and operated Don's Radio and TV. During WWII, he served in the U.S. Navy.
Preceding him in death were his parents, infant daughter: Sharyl Lynn; son: Gary and sister: Doris Purcelle.
Survivors include his wife: Velma of Rochelle; 3 sons: Ron (Lori) Smith of Polo, IL, Keith (Tina) Smith of Clarkrange, TN and Ken (Johana) of Venice, FL; brother: Darrell (Carolyn) Smith of Philadelphia, MS; 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Services will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011 at Unger-Horner Funeral Home at 2:00 PM.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 PM prior to the service at Unger-Horner.
Burial at Lawnridge Cemetery with Military Services by Easter Lee Ogle Honor Guard. A memorial is being established.
