Donald R. Taylor, 80, of Rochelle, passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 27, 2018 in Madison, Wisconsin. Don was born on August 25, 1937 to Oscar and Leona (Johnson) Taylor in Arbyrd, Missouri. From 1956 - 1960, Don was in the Air Force stationed at Chicago O'Hare before it became a civilian airport. He married Karen L. Busse on March 6, 1964 in St. Charles, Illinois. In addition to being owner and agent of State Farm in Rochelle for 33 years, he was also a volunteer fireman for the Rochelle Fire Department for several years. He had many great memories and stories to tell of his time with the fire department. He also served as the Flagg Township Supervisor for a few years in the 1980's.  Don was a true outdoorsman, enjoying everything from hunting, fishing, boating and snowmobiling, always on a Ski-Doo, to hunting trips out West and fishing trips to Alaska and Canada. His favorite spot was his cabin on Lake Pokegama in Lac Du Flambeau, Wisconsin. There were many, many wonderful memories made there that his family will not soon forget! In his later years, he could be found in the winter months enjoying the sunshine in Davenport, Florida. He was also an avid Green Bay Packer Fan.

In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his wife, Karen, on May 16, 2006; three sisters: Betty (Orville) Cude, Dorothy Faulkner and Aileen Gray; sister-in-law, Connie Vogeler and brother-in-law, Rodney Busse.

Don is survived by his children: Michael Taylor of Topeka, KS and Michelle Taylor of Rockford, IL; brother-in-law, Dale Vogeler of Rochelle; nephews: Alvie Ray (Martha) Brown and Larry Cude; niece, Paula McGuine and three special nephews: Gary Vogeler, Jim (Dianne) Vogeler and Mike (Annette) Vogeler and many great nieces and nephews.

The visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M., Friday, March 2, 2018 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th St., Rochelle. The funeral service will be held at 9:00 A.M., Saturday, March 3 at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at the Lawnridge Mausoleum in Rochelle.
