Donald I. Terry, 89, of Rochelle, passed away on Thursday, May 31, 2012 at Swedish American Hospital in Rockford. He was born on April 5, 1923 in Paw Paw, IL to Irvin C. and Mary M.
(Wangler) Terry. Don graduated from Paw Paw High School in 1941. He served in the army from 1943 - 1946. Don married Celia "Toots" Stewart on Feb. 14, 1941 and she preceded him in death on Jan. 8, 1990. On June 22, 1990 Donald married Gladys Henert in Rockton, IL at the Church By The Side Of The Road. He was also preceded by brothers: Gerald, Ralph, Wesley, and Randall; sister-in-law: Addie Terry; Great granddaughter: Darien Kelly and step great grandchildren: Weston and Channing Butler.
Don farmed from 1949 to 1989 in the Earlville IL area and also was a hail adjuster for Federal Crop, and then for Country Companies. Memberships include being a lifetime member of the VFW Post #4079 in Mendota, Elks Club, and American Legion. Donald was also a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Rochelle.
Survivors include his wife: Gladys Henert Terry of Rochelle; daughters: Carol Dilbeck of Earlville, IL and Donna (James) Smith of Murfreesboro, TN; 2 step daughters: Norma (Don) Huntley of Chana, IL and Brenda (Steve) Chapman of Ashton, IL; 1 step son: Dr. Terry Henert of Wappella, IL. 6 grandchildren and 6 step grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren and 17 step great grand children; many nieces and nephews and dear friends: Mike (Kathy) Pierce of Earlville, IL.
Services will be held at Faith Lutheran Church on Monday, June 4, 2012 at 11:00 AM with Rev.
Steve Dow. Visitation will be from 9 to 11:00 Monday, prior to the service time. Burial at Restland Cemetery in Mendota, IL 2:00 PM on Monday. Military Rites provided by VFW Post 4079. A Memorial has been established.
