DORIS B. FYKE, age 86, of Rochelle, died on August 12, 2007 at the Rochelle Rehabilitation Center. Born on March 8, 1921 the daughter of William J. and Nellie (McCall) Ruch. Graduated from Decatur Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Sept. 1942 as a Registered Nurse. She and her family lived in Deland, IL where she was employed at Carle Hospital in Champaign / Urbana as a night supervisor. While employed there, the emergency room Dr. called her and asked her to go to the ER and give "The Duke" a penicillin shot. "The Duke" was the famous bandleader Duke Ellington. In 1955 the family moved to the Rochelle area. She worked as a registered nurse at Rochelle Hospital and for the Nurses Registry in Rockford. She retired from nursing in 1995. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rochelle. She was preceded by her parents; her sister: Norma Dean Ruch and an infant daughter: Gloria Dale at birth.
Survivors include daughters: Diane (Leo) Gildea of Rochelle, Denise Steder of Dixon
son: Doug (Debby) Fyke of Lee.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, August 15, 2007 at the First Baptist Church, Rochelle, with the Rev. Doug Cowan officiating.
Visitation will be held from 10 AM to 11 AM prior to the funeral at the church.
Memorials may be made to the IL Humane Society or the First Baptist Church.
