IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Doris Marie
Hardy
January 1, 1932 – March 31, 2023
Doris Marie Hardy, 91, passed away Friday, March 31, 2023 at the Rochelle Community Hospital in Rochelle, Illinois. Doris was born on January 1, 1932 to Wendell H. and Hiskea "Carrie" (Harms) Furman in Rochelle, IL. On September 23, 1950, she married Wayne E. Hardy in Rochelle.
Doris was the bookkeeper for the Scarboro Elevator for several decades. She was an exceptional homemaker; ensuring her family was well fed and otherwise taken care of out on the farm. She was a skilled seamstress and made the majority of clothes for herself and her daughters. One of her daily disciplines was writing in her journal. Gardening was a very rewarding hobby. She enjoyed her work with the Lee County Home Extension, and her outings with the local "Red Hat" group of friends. Doris particularly enjoyed roller skating, dancing and many other social activities. She was a voracious reader of novels and other books and supplemented her free time with jigsaw puzzles. Although she never operated the farm equipment, she prayed for safe plantings and harvests of the crops every season. She looked forward to weekend get-a-ways, especially the annual Cheese Days in Monroe, WI, July 4th festivals and county fairs. Doris was a dedicated and committed volunteer for a host of services provided through the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Rochelle.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Wayne, on August 14, 2021; two brothers: Keith and Curtis Furman and two sisters: Reta Meling and Joyce Gittleson.
Doris is survived by her three children: Terry (Lisa) Hardy of Davis Junction, IL, Nancy (Jeff) Lang of Geneseo, IL and Carol Hardy of Jacksonville, FL; three brothers: Loren (Ruth) Furman of Rochelle, Wayne (Connie) Furman of Belleville, IL and Wendell Furman of Rochelle; two sisters: Carol Friestad of Rochelle and Kay Clark of Mt. Morris, IL; four grandchildren: Allen (Kelly) Hardy of Princeton, IL, Nola (Phil) Eatherton of Peshtigo, WI, Amber (Erik) Bolander of Genoa, IL and Colby Lang of Chicago, IL; and six great grandchildren: Grant and Heath Hardy, Jack and Luke Eatherton and Briar and Brynn Bolander.
