Obituary

Dorothy (Carney) Lichty, 93 of Monroe Center, IL; passed away on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009
at her home in Monroe Center. She was born on Aug. 10, 1916 in Lee County, Steward,IL
the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Strohman) Carney. She graduated from Rochelle High
School in 1934 and received her teaching degree at Northern Illinois State Teachers College in
DeKalb. She married Donald Lichty on Feb. 18, 1939 in Terril, IA. They farmed in Ogle
County for 39 years, the last 25 years in the Monroe Center area. They had four children,
Gary, Sandra, Robert and Roger. Donald passed away on June 21, 1981. She was also preceded
by her parents, eldest son Gary on Jan. 1, 1995, brother: Irvin Carney and sister: Mildred Byrd
and two sisters in infancy.

Dorothy retired in 1983 from Meridian Unit School District in Stillman Valley after over 36 years of teaching in various Ogle County schools. It was with the help of her loving husband and family that she was able to achieve this goal. She moved to her home in Monroe Center in 1984 where she spent happy retirement years surrounded by her loving family, playing cards, crocheting and reading. She was a member of Monroe Center Community Church and Ladies
Guild, Adeline Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and life member of the Lee Ogle Retired
Teachers and the Illinois Retired Teachers Association.

Survived by children: Sandy (Harley) McCammond and Bob (Nota) Lichty all of Monroe Center, and Roger (Becky) Lichty of Rockford; daughter-in-law: Carole Lichty of Sycamore; 8 grandchildren: John (Pam) Lichty, Tom (Melanie) Lichty, Wendy (Karl) Ropp, Steve (Neysa)
McCammond, Shawn (Sheila) McCammond, Lori (Pete) Wetzel, Lisa (Jake Reiniche) Lichty,
and Ty (Jennifer) Lichty; 5 step grandchildren: Julie (Dan) Drouare, Kathy (Khikkard) Hopson,
Douglas Spires, Matthew (Tracy) Spires, and Kim (Matthew) Woodstrup; 16 great grandchildren,
8 step great grandchildren, 3 great great granddaughters, and 1 step-great great granddaughter;
sister-in-law: Mildred Carney, nieces and a nephew. Dorothy had many fond memories of
Eddie Dye and his family.

Dorothy's family extends their heartfelt thanks to her caregiver, Dr. Mike, and to the entire
staff at Ogle County Hospice. Their wonderful care and compassion is appreciated and will
always be remembered.

Services on Monday, Oct. 26, 2009 at 10:30 AM at Monroe Center Community Church with
Rev. Bob Mellon officiating. Visitation is 3 to 6 PM Sunday, Oct. 25th at Unger-Horner Funeral Home,400 N. 6th St. in Rochelle. Memorials to Ogle County Hospice or Monroe Center Community Church.
