Dorothy Carolyn Thigpen, 66, of Rochelle,IL passed away on May 15th, 2015 at Serenity House in Oregon, IL , from the effects of Alzheimer's. The disease may have taken her memories and abilities but it never was able to take the essence of her life, love and kindness.
Dorothy enjoyed flower gardening, hummingbirds, and paintings by Thomas Kinkade. She loved to play and cuddle her fur babies. Her favorite thing to do was watch her granddaughter dance and bowl. We traveled all over the Midwest to watch dance competitions and bowling meets and tournaments. Spending time with her family brought her joy, happiness and love. Her faith in God helped her enjoy her life to the fullest, knowing that when her life on earth had come to an end, she would be living in Heavenly Paradise.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Myrtle Allgood and two brothers: Carl Burleson and Jack Melton.
She is survived by her daughter, Machelle (Joe Feazell ) Hager, her granddaughter, Katrina (Mitch Mencacci )Hager of Rochelle, IL, her sister, Marie (Donald) Thornton of Raleigh, MS, two brothers: Joe Owens of Houston TX, and James (Ginny) Owens of Soso, MS.
A celebration of life will held at 1st Presbyterian Church of Rochelle, IL on May 27th, 2015 from 4-8pm. We would love to have you drop by and share a memory, a laugh ,a smile, good food and to celebrate the wonderful journey of her life.
In lieu of flowers, we are requesting that you donate to either Caleb and Kat's youth bowling scholarship at Rock Valley Credit Union (checks made out to Katrina Hager ) or to Tails Humane Society, so that someone else will have the opportunity to enjoy the things she enjoyed most, a cuddle with a fur baby, and watching their loved ones bowl.
