Elizabeth "Bette" L. Sage, 85, of Rochelle, passed away on Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at Rochelle Community Hospital after a long illness. She was born on Feb. 9, 1923 in Polo, IL, the daughter of John M. and Elizabeth V. (Ellis) Rucker. On July 14, 1945, Betty married Robert Sage in Rochelle. Memberships include St. Patrick Catholic Church and VFW Auxiliary. She had previously been employed by the Rochelle Elementary Grade School in the kitchen. From 1943-1944, she worked at the Green River Ordinance Plant during WWII. She was preceded by her parents and 4 sisters: Martha Hayenga, Mary Ellen Cote, Eileen Sage, and Althea Helfrich-Johnson.

Survivors include her husband: Bob of Rochelle; 2 daughters: Lisa (Mark) McCaffrey of Rochelle; and Beth (Chris) Romes of Valencia, CA; a son: Robert Sage Jr. of Rochelle;
8 grandchildren: Nick (Stacey) Romes of Phoenix, AZ, Ashley Romes of Valencia, Ca, Jamie
(Dale) Wells of Ashton, Derek and Ryan Sage, of Rochelle, Jared, Jenna and Austin McCaffrey of Rochelle, ; step granddaughter: Megan Leffelman of Chicago, and 4 great grandchildren: Cole and Ethan Wells of Ashton; and Kaydn and Kyla Sage of Rochelle , a Sister: Patricia (Marion) Mann of Rochelle and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Rochelle on Saturday, April 5, 2008 at 10:00 AM with Rev. David Peck officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 6 to 8 Pm at Unger-Horner Funeral Home. Burial will be at St. Patrick Cemetery. A Memorial has been established.
