Obituary

Ellen May Hill, of Creston, died August 20, 2020 at the age of 97. Beloved wife of her late husband Orson P. Hill. Devoted mother to Fred Hill and his wife Kathleen of Rochelle, Illinois, Roger Hill and his late wife Betty of Lake Wales, Florida, Clay Hill of Kissimmee, Florida, and Lois Hill of Bali, Indonesia. Loving Grandmother to Eric (Samary} Hill of Orlando, Jennifer (Lon) Herring of Mt. Zion, Illinois, Heather (Erik) Crawford of Rochelle, Illinois, and Charles (Gina} Hill of Wauconda, Illinois., and loving Great Grandmother to Kaeden, Logan, Alexis, Carter, Easton and Canaan.

Ellen was born on October 8, 1922 to Charles and Gladys (Southcott) Jentzsch in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She grew up on a farm near Eagle, Wisconsin where she attended school in a one room school house. She later graduated from Waukesha High School and Whitewater Wisconsin State Teachers College. Ellen loved children and was a teacher, ultimately teaching 3rd Grade at Lincoln School in Rochelle. She met and married her late husband Orson Hill while she was a young teacher and they moved to the family farm in Creston, where she lived for nearly her entire adult life.

Ellen raised four children at the family farm and was a devoted mother, a loyal friend, and a community volunteer. She managed to stay sane with three active boys growing up in the '60s. She taught her daughter many art skills at home that helped make her a well- known designer. Ellen was very active with both the Calvary Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School for many years and the Creston Library. She started a Camp Fire Girls Group and many of the Camp Fire Girls still remember those times fondly. She received the Cedarhom Citizenship award. Butterflies and Purple were her trademark She will be remembered always and greatly missed.
