Emma Ingrid Gruben, 103, formerly of Rochelle, IL passed away Sat. Apr. 20, 2013 at the Dekalb Area Retirement Center (Oak Crest). Emma was born Jan. 12, 1910 in Brantwood, WI, the daughter of John and Edla (Ylkanen) Nyman. She graduated from Dekalb High School in the class of 1928. Emma married Onno T. Gruben, June 26, 1937 in Dekalb, IL and he preceded her in death May 20, 2004. She was employed by the Rudolph Mfg. Company, in Dekalb, Wurlitzer Piano Company, in Dekalb and the Rochelle Savings & Loan as a secretary/bookkeeper. Emma was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Rochelle, President in the BPW and for 50 years a member of a sewing club. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles, scrabble and reading.
Emma was preceeded in death by: 1 brother: John Nyman; 5 sisters: Toini Peterson, Marian Bentz, Jennie Alred, Helen Whitney and Ruth Harlow.
She was survived by: 1 son: David (Susan) Gruben of Denton, TX; 2 daughters: Joan (Wayne) Beach of Hot Springs Village, AR and Janet (Michael) Jones of Naples, FL; 6 grandchildren: James (Tamra) Beach of CO, Kathryn (Scott) Schroeder of TX, Peter Jones of KS, Amanda Jones of NC, Douglas Gruben of TX and Chad (Susie)Gruben of CO; 7 great-grandchildren: Benjamin, Mark and Samuel Schroeder, Samantha Beach, Evalena and Odin Gruben, Annika Emma Gruben.
Funeral service will be 11:00 AM, Wednesday April 24, 2013 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Rochelle. Visitation will be prior to the funeral from 9:30 - 10:45 AM. Family requests memorials be given to Dekalb Area Retirement Center. Burial at Lawnridge Cemetery.
