Obituary

Eugene "Shin" W. Baker, 88, passed away Monday, November 11, 2013 at his home. Shin was born December 13, 1924 in Rochelle to John and Martha (Eckhardt) Baker Sr. He was stationed in Hawaii during W.W. II, serving our country with the Army as a sergeant. He had the honor of driving the officers around Hawaii during that time. On September 20, 1944, he married Virgie Mae Marler in Oregon, IL. Shin worked for over 40 years as a truck driver and heavy equipment operator for Quest Excavating. He attended the First Baptist Church of Rochelle.

Shin was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, John "Duke" Jr., two sisters: Sally Frye and Shirley Hanson, one sister-in-law, Dorothy Baker and one brother-in-law, Cliff Hanson.

Shin is survived by his wife, Virgie, his son, Larry (Teresa) Baker of Rochelle, two grandchildren: Angel and Adam Baker of Rochelle and one brother-in-law, Roy Frye also of Rochelle.

Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M., Thursday, November 14, 2013 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home 400 N. 6th St., Rochelle with Pastor Doug Cowan officiating. The visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Wednesday, November 13 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home. Burial will be at Lawnridge Cemetery in Rochelle. A memorial has been established.
