Eugene W. Eckhardt, age 77, died on Wednesday, November 26, 2008, at the Rochelle Gardens Care Center. He was born on September 26, 1931 in Rochelle, IL the son of Frank and Esther DeBruine. He married Eunice E. Wald on May 12, 1956. Gene worked as a photo engraver for 38 years employed by Combined Communication Services. He was a Korean War Veteran serving in the U.S. Army and member of the Community Christian Church. Preceding him in death, were his parents and stepmother: Gertrude Eckhardt and sister: Barb Albrecht.

Survivors include his wife: Eunice of Rochelle, son: David (Betsy) Eckhardt of Rochelle and daughter: Mary (Hoover) Mercado of Kenosha, WI; sister: Pat (Ben) Burch of Rochelle; 5 grandchildren; Steve, Stacey, Scott, Andrew and Mark

Services will be held at Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th St. Rochelle, IL on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008 at 10:30 AM. Visitation will be prior to the service at Unger-Horner on Saturday,
from 9:30 to 10:30 AM. Memorials to Hub City Senior Center. Military Services by VFW Post 3878. Burial at Lawnridge Cemetery.
