Evelyn E. Gates, 94, of Rochelle, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, November 26, 2015, at her home with her loving family at her side. She was born December 14, 1920, in Wayne County, IL, the daughter of William H. And Evea Marie (Ethington) Alexander. She was united in marriage to Donald E. "Mike" Gates. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, three brothers, William Kenneth, Max, and Lester Alexander, and her son-in-law, Greg Brown. Evelyn raised her family and worked as a church secretary/bookkeeper. She was a member of the New Life Foursquare Church in Rochelle.

Evelyn is survived by her children, Larry (Kathy) Gates of Rochelle, Judy (Leon) Jewell of Bedford, IN, Don (Nancy) Gates of Las Vegas, NV, and Sharon Brown of Rochelle; grandchildren, Rene Hirter, Lori Hensley, Michael Lawrence, Donald Lawrence, Christina (Brian) Singh, Chris Alan Gates, Rachel (Joel) Berry, Michael (Jamie) Stombaugh, Daniel (Jennifer) Brown, David (Samantha) Brown, Travis (Michelle) Brown, and Ben Brown; twenty great-grandchildren, including a very special great-grandchild, Chase Brown; seven great-great grandchildren; and numerous other nieces and nephews, including a very special nephew, William "Bill" Alexander of Portia, AR.

Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 P.M. Monday, November, 30, 2015, at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th Street, in Rochelle. A funeral service will immediately follow the visitation at 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home with the Rev. Anne Erickson officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded following the services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Evelyn's name to OSF Hospice or New Life Foursquare Church.
