Evelyn June Kersten, 88, of Rochelle, passed away Thursday, June 14, 2012, at Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon, IL. She was born June 3, 1924, in Sublette, Illinois the daughter of Henry W. and Margaret Politsch Leifheit. She graduated from Mendota High School. She married Verlis H. Kersten October 21, 1945, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Dixon, Illinois. He preceded her in death in 2006. Evelyn farmed with her husband south of Rochelle for 51 years retiring in 1986 and moving to Rochelle. Evelyn was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church in Rochelle, IL where she served as choir mother and Sunday school teacher.

Evelyn is survived by a son, Dale C. (Jan) Kersten, Carthage, MO and a daughter, Marilyn I. (Dennis) Doolan, Valrico, FL; a granddaughter, Mandy (Jason) Kersten Hayungs, Fredericksburg, VA; and 2 great grandsons, Parker C. and Logan D. Hayungs, Fredericksburg, VA.

Services will be held 10:00 AM Tuesday, June 19th at Unger-Horner Funeral Home in Rochelle, IL with Chaplain Judy Williams officiating. Visitation will be Monday, June 18th from 5-7 PM. Burial is at Lawnridge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Serenity Hospice and Home or Rochelle Community Hospital Foundation.
