Evelyn Louise (Weinreich) Saathoff, aged 93, died peacefully after a short illness, among her family on Sunday, December 31, 2006 at Swedish American Hospital in Rockford. Born September 2, 1913, Evelyn was the younger daughter of William Weinreich and Catherine Leesch. Her two brothers, Raymond and Arthur Weinreich, her sister Lauretta (Weinreich) Boomgarden, and her husband Raymond Francis Saathoff, Sr. preceded her in death.
Evelyn leaves behind a world of people who love and miss her, including her daughter Dr. Fran Baker of Jackson, Mississippi; son Raymond F. Saathoff, Jr. and daughter-in-law Sue Saathoff of Stillman Valley; granddaughter Angela (Saathoff) Wainwright and husband Sean Wainwright of Ridgeland, Mississippi; grandson Daniel Saathoff, Melissa Vail, and great-granddaughter Cambria Lynn Saathoff of Kirkland; grandson Kevin Baker of Jackson, Mississippi; and granddaughter Michele Baker of Jackson, Mississippi.
Other family members are sisters-in-law Mrs. Esther Weinreich and Mrs. Ethel Weinreich; nieces and nephews Arthur Weinreich, Jr., Donald Boomgarden, Darryl Boomgarden, Richard Boomgarden (deceased), Joyce Williams, Nancy Parrish, Gary Weinreich, Janet Sanderson; Wayne Saathoff, Larry Saathoff, Connie Edson, Laurie Saathoff, Robert Drummond, and a whole host of other loving relatives. Other loved ones include Desi and Jazlyn Pittman; Wanda Moen; and Evelyn's cat Petunia.
Evelyn completed the 8th grade and entered the workforce knotting yarn and spooling spinning thread at Caron Spinning Mill. During World War II she also wrapped bandages and worked for the American Red Cross while living in Rochelle with her sisters-in-law and mother while her brothers served in the Pacific.
She married Raymond Francis Saathoff on Valentines Day 1947, in Rochelle ,IL and gave birth to a baby girl named for her parents Frances Louise on December 3 of that year. She joked that the baby was the souvenir from her honeymoon at Mardi Gras in New Orleans or from Florida. Four years later Raymond Francis, Jr. came along. The couple farmed at several locations in Ogle County, moving back to Stillman Valley in 1962 into the house on Hickory Street where she lived the remainder of her life.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, January 5, 2007 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lindenwood with the Rev. David Yarrington officiating. Visitation will be at the Unger Horner Funeral Home, 400 N 6th St. on Thursday from 4 - 7 PM.
Burial will be at the Lawnridge Cemetery, Rochelle
