Florence "Fran" M. Haas, 92 of Rochelle, passed away on May 3, 2012 at OSF Hospital in Rockford, IL. She was born on May 26, 1919, in Sleepy Eye, MN to Henry H. and Johanna
A. (Dumke) Volker. Fran was the Salutatorian of her High School Class and also won the American Legion School Award. After High School, she attended two years of teacher's training and then taught at a country school for two years. Fran married Lester Haas in Alexander, VA, on June 1, 1942, and he worked for the Government Park Services Office in Washington, DC. They were transferred to Chicago, and then chose Rochelle, where Les worked for Del Monte Corp. Together they had 3 sons. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1976 and son: John in 1969.
Fran worked at a drug store, clothing store and Precision Optical. Over the years, she enjoyed
hiking, biking, tennis, bowling, jig-saw and cross word puzzles, plus a variety of card games.
She also cared for "Bert", the parrot, who was 28 years old in 2012. Her party mix and chocolate
chip cookies were always a treat, for family and friends.
Survivors include sons: Dick (Linda) Haas of Del Mar, CA, and Steve (Cathy) Haas of Rochelle, IL; Grand children: Chris (Lisa) Haas of Rochelle, Brittany (Anthony) Ludwig of Rochelle, Corinne (Matt) Dyer of Rochelle, Miriah (Corey) Ranken of Rochelle and Lauren Haas of San Jose, CA; great grandchildren: Morgan & Owen Haas, Makayla, Mason and Madison Ludwig, Lucas and Katelyn Dyer and Ben, Camryn and Aiden Ranken.
Unger-Horner Funeral Home assisted the family with private services. Memorials can be made to: Rochelle Community Hospital.
