Forrest W. Shaffer 80 of Rochelle, IL died Sat. Sept. 4, 2010 in Central Dupage Hospital in Winfield, IL. He was born Aug. 19, 1930 in Lincoln, IL the son of Verl and Elsie Bean Shaffer. He married Janice LaVonne Cox on Sept. 6, 1952 in Oregon, IL at Lighthouse Methodist Church.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Member of Rochelle United Methodist Church. Worked for Del Monte for 15 years then worked for Swift & Co. for 18 years. He retired from NIU after 15 years in 1991. After retirement he work for Rochelle Police Dept. as a crossing guard. Life member of Rochelle V.F.W. Post 3878.
Surviving: wife Janice of Rochelle, 3 daughters Kathryn (the late Bill) Bettner of Rochelle, Esther (Steve) Rose of Carrier Mills, IL and Barbara (Glenn) Bahr of Mantua, Ohio.
Grandchildren: Melanie (Chris) Clark of Ashton, IL, Bradley (Jennifer) Bettner of Saginaw, MI, Danielle Bettner of Schaumburg, IL, Michael Bettner of Fort Riley, KS, Craig Bahr and Kelly Bahr both of Mantua, OH and Becky Rose and Brandon Rose of Carrier Mills, IL
Great Grandchildren: Zakkariah Clark, Peyton Clark, Carter Bettner and Alaina Bettner.

Funeral services will be Thursday Sept. 9, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in Rochelle United Methodist Church with Rev. Brett Todd.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 on Wed. at Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th Street Rochelle, IL.
Family has requested memorials to Arthritis Foundation and Hub City Senior Citizens Center.
Burial with Military rites by V.F.W Post 3878 at Trinity Memory Gardens Cemetery, Rochelle.
