IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Frank H.
Atchley
September 13, 1936 – October 27, 2023
Rochelle
Frank H. Atchley, 87, passed away peacefully Friday, October 27, 2023 at Manor Court in
Rochelle, Illinois. Frank was born on September 13, 1936 to Albert L. and Arlie M. (Ragan)
Atchley in Black Rock, AR. He proudly served with the United States Navy. He was also a
member of the Rochelle Jaycees, Rochelle Moose lodge, and Rochelle VFW. On June 27, 1959,
he married Lillian Rose Leigh in Rochelle. She preceded him in death on June 19, 2023. They
were faithful members of New Hope Fellowship in Rochelle.
After retirement, Frank and Lillian enjoyed being "Winter Texans" in Donna, Texas at the Lil Bit
O'Heaven RV Resort for 18 years. There they met wonderful friends whom they enjoyed
spending time with. In addition to Texas, they enjoyed traveling to Mexico, Florida, New York
and many trips to Tennessee to spend a few weeks with their youngest daughter, Linda. They
loved this special time with Linda and two grandsons, Michael and Justin. After their winter
travels, they always looked forward to coming back home to be with their three other daughters
and grandchildren.
They lived in their home in Rochelle for over 50 years enjoying many wonderful neighbors.
Frank and Lillian were the kind of neighbors anyone would be blessed to live nearby. Very
special neighbors for years were Ralph & Terre who became like family. Their daughters will be forever grateful for the love they showed to their parents.
Frank and Lillian enjoyed camping, raising their daughters with many wonderful memories from
local weekend trips to amazing camping vacations to Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming
and the Smokey Mountains in Tennessee. A wonderful family tradition was the famous wiener
roasts in their backyard, nothing fancy just hot dogs and s'mores. Family time was always a
priority in their lives, making sure they went to as many grandkids' activities as possible. Frank
thoroughly enjoyed just being with his family. Often times he could not contain his excitement
and the way he expressed his joy was very well known to the entire family, PAUSE and LOOK
at family (daughters).
Frank is survived by his four daughters: Pam Baker, Lisa (Kevin) Chidley both of Rochelle, Judy
(Dan) Piecha, of Delavan, WI and Linda Nave of Bristol, TN; 11 grandchildren: Doug (Megan)
Baker, Leann (Andy) DeWitt, Rachel Huff, Matt (Josie) Mitchell, Sara (Josh Clark) Mitchell,
Andrew (Danielle) Chidley, Kendra (Jeff Holden) Egland, Brad (Jayme) Egland, Shannon
Piecha, Justin (Sarah) Nave and Michael Nave; 18 great grandchildren with number 19 coming
in May to Justin and Sarah Nave; one sister, Kay Snipes from Kennett Missouri and many
nieces and nephews. They also had many friends in Illinois, Donna, TX and Elizabethton, TN.
In addition to his parents and wife, Lillian, Frank was predeceased by one brother, Joseph
Atchley and four sisters: Fanny Hollingsworth-Cates, Ethel Birmingham, Dixie Phillips, and
Mary Reeves.
