IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gary Dale
Vogeler
January 7, 1957 – March 15, 2026
Gary Dale Vogeler, 69, of Esmond, Illinois, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 15, 2026. Gary was born on January 7, 1957, the son of Dale R. and Connie J. (Busse) Vogeler in Rochelle, Illinois.
Gary, better known as “Vog” grew up with strong values that shaped his entire life: grit, hard work, laughter, and a stubborn streak that those who loved him knew all too well. From a young age, he had a passion for anything with an engine – cars, tractors, boats, and just about anything else with an engine. If it went fast, Vog was interested, and usually was behind the wheel. Vog was someone who could take a piece of equipment and “Vogelerize” it into something that worked better than it probably had any right to -- running just a little better, a little faster, or a little more his style.
Farming became a central part of his life, not only as work but as a place where he welcomed family and friends. Whether you stopped by for five minutes or five hours, Gary always had a cold beer ready. You might have just stopped to say “hi,” but the odds were in favor of being put to work. Either way, he simply loved the company. He was known for his stories, his humor, and his willingness to share his opinion — asked for or not. People could always count on him to show up when the times were tough.
Gary was immensely proud of his family. He is survived by his partner, Michelle Quest of Esmond, IL; his children: Michelle (Travis) Peterson of Kalispell, MT, Scott Vogeler of Rockford, IL, Tyler (Katelyn) Vogeler of Belgium, WI, and Sarah (Cole) Burke of Oregon, IL; two brothers: Jim (Dianne) Vogeler of Rochelle, IL and Mike (Annette) Vogeler of Oregon, IL; his cherished grandchildren: Chloe and Dru Peterson, Jack Vogeler, Otto Vogeler, Lane and Leah Burke, and one grandbaby on the way. Being a grandpa was one of his greatest joys, and he adored his grandkids with all his heart.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Constance Vogeler, infant sister, Denise, and infant brother, Jeff, along with dear friends who no doubt greeted him with open arms and a cold beer.
Gary lived a simple, honest life with nothing but love for his family, his friends, and his farm. His stories will continue to be told – loudly, proudly, and with just the right amount of a “lesson-learned.”
A Celebration of Life will be held at the farm at a later date, once the weather warms. As Gary would have wanted, the farm remains open as a place to gather, tell stories, laugh, and share a cold beer in his honor. There will be no formal visitation or funeral. Memorials may be made in Gary’s memory to Rochelle FFA, 1401 Flagg Road, Rochelle, IL 61068. Since farming was a big part of his life, he loved to support youth interested in agriculture.
