George David Ginn, Sr., 85, of Rochelle, IL passed away on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at his home after a long battle with cancer. He was born on October 17, 1930 in Birdeye, AR. He was the son of Jim and Mary Ellen (Moncrief) Ginn. He married Louise Faye Leather on May 21, 1960.
George moved to Rochelle in 1954. Started working in 1955 for Del Monte, retiring after 30 years. He loved to fish from the day he was born! His most cherished memories are of summers spent in Canada on his boat with family and friends. He also enjoyed bowling and working on a pit crew for Car 66 at the Rockford Speedway. George was a member of the Rochelle Horicon Lodge 244, AF & AM, and the Rochelle Moose 903. He was preceded in death by his wife Louise; parents; brother, John Franklin "Pee Wee" Moncrief; and great grandson, Dorian Keating.
Survived by his two sons: George Ginn Jr., of Davis Junction, and Greg Leathers of Sycamore; four daughters: Phyllis (Richard) Ott of Ashton, Donna Babb of Rochelle, Beth (Steve) Stricker of Sandwich, and Rose (Doug) Ball of Sycamore; brother, Edward "Bo" (Mary) Moncrief of MS; sister, Emma Katherine Walker of AR; 16 grandchildren, 28 3/4 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 10 AM on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at the Unger Horner Funeral Home, 400 N 6th St., Rochelle with Pastor Stan Rodabaugh officiating. Visitation will be on Monday from 4 - 7 PM with a Masonic Service at 7 PM. Burial will be at Trinity Memory Gardens. Memorials can be made to the Moose Club or Horicon Lodge 244.
